Dr. Mougeh Yasai
Co-Founder & Clinical Director
I am a New York State licensed Clinical Psychologist. I earned a Bachelor of Arts from Vassar College, a Master’s in Teaching from American University, and a doctoral degree from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. Before pursuing my doctorate in psychology, I worked in elementary and high school settings, where I supported children and adolescents with learning and behavioral challenges. I completed my psychology internship at St. Luke’s–Roosevelt Hospital and received postdoctoral training with Dr. Zoya Simakdoskaya, a leading expert in Emotion-Focused Psychotherapy. I spent six years as an Assistant Medical Professor at Sophie Davis Medical School and also served as an Assistant Clinical Professor at Mount Sinai Medical School, where I worked with psychiatric residents. I have maintained a private practice on the Upper West Side for more than ten years.
My therapy approach is interactive and collaborative – I believe in creating a safe, supportive environment where you can feel truly seen and heard. With over ten years of experience, I work with a broad range of emotional/behavioral concerns. I specialize in couples therapy, adolescent developmental challenges, women’s health transitions (including prenatal, postnatal, and perimenopausal stages), and addictive behaviors including disordered eating.
Utilizing an integrative approach, I practice evidence-based therapies which include psychodynamic, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, mindfulness skills, Emotion-Focused Therapy, and CBT. Our work will focus on developing specific skills to target distressing feelings and behaviors and/or identifying problems that interfere with the quality of your life.
No matter where you are in your journey, I believe in your ability to gain greater insight and create meaningful, lasting changes in your life. As a multicultural psychologist, I am keenly aware of your unique background and use this to inform my treatment. I provide a welcoming, affirming space for LGBTQIA+ individuals and those in polyamorous or non-monogamous relationships, embracing people of all identities and backgrounds.
