Laura Fodor, MSW-LP

Psychotherapist

Laura Fodor, MSW-LP is a New York State psychotherapist. She obtained her BA (Hons) in Psychology from the University of Calgary, her MSc in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Capella University, and her MSW from the Wurzweiler School of Social Work at Yeshiva University. Laura’s clinical work is informed by her background in both clinical mental health and organizational psychology, allowing her to approach therapy with a unique blend of empathy, structure, and insight. Her professional experience spans a range of settings, including group private practice, outpatient clinics, inpatient programs, and corporate environments, where she has supported individuals navigating psychological distress.

In our work together, I aim to offer a safe space where you feel seen, supported, and gently challenged in ways that promote lasting growth. I believe that you are the expert in your own story, and I’ll work closely with you to identify both internal strengths and external barriers to growth. My style is collaborative and engaged - I listen deeply, ask thoughtful questions, and tailor the work to reflect your unique needs. Depending on those needs, I draw from a range of evidence-based modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), trauma-informed care, solution-focused therapy, and strengths-based approaches to help you develop insight and create meaningful change.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with diverse individuals across various stages of life. I’ve supported clients navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, addictions, and major life transitions. My work has included helping inpatient residents with serious mental health challenges, supporting federal inmates reintegrate into society, and working in a private group practice with individuals who may feel stuck in patterns they don’t fully understand - whether that’s in relationships, career, or their internal world. With a background in organizational psychology and prior experience in leadership development, I also bring a nuanced lens to clients navigating high-pressure work environments and identity shifts within professional life.

I welcome adults and teens of all backgrounds and I approach each person’s story with curiosity and cultural humility. That said, whether you're seeking therapy to process the past, make sense of the present, or prepare for the future, I’m here to walk alongside you with a deep respect for your lived experience. I do not view therapy as solely a space for symptom relief, but rather as a space where old narratives can be gently unpacked and reimagined, leading to healing and profound growth.
