Laura Fodor, LMSW
Psychotherapist
Laura Fodor, LMSW is a New York State psychotherapist with a dual background in clinical mental health and organizational psychology. She obtained her BA (Hons) in Psychology from the University of Calgary, her MSc in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Capella University, and her MSW from the Wurzweiler School of Social Work at Yeshiva University. Laura’s clinical work is informed by her unique training across both psychology and organizational science, allowing her to approach therapy with a blend of empathy, structure, and insight. Her professional experience spans group private practice, outpatient clinics, inpatient programs, and corporate environments, where she has supported individuals navigating psychological distress and personal growth.
In the therapy room, Laura offers a safe space where clients feel seen, supported, and gently challenged in ways that promote lasting growth. She believes that clients are the experts in their own stories and works collaboratively to identify internal strengths and external barriers to change. Laura has supported clients navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, addictions, major life transitions, and professional identity shifts. She draws from evidence-based modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), trauma-informed care, solution-focused therapy, and strengths-based approaches. She also has specialized training in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for the treatment of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I).
Laura additionally works with a Global Leadership Development Advisory firm, where she focuses on executive performance. In this role, she works with high-performing leaders and professionals who have been identified for their strong potential. Laura helps assess their capabilities to uncover barriers to optimal performance and collaborates with them on strategies to leverage their strengths, enhance their leadership impact, and sustain growth under pressure. This integration of clinical insight with organizational expertise allows her to bring a rare, multidimensional perspective to her work with both executives and therapy clients.
Having been born in Romania, raised in Canada, and now living in the United States, Laura brings a deeply personal understanding of assimilation, acculturation, and the challenges of transitioning to new environments. This perspective informs her sensitivity to balancing a respect for where someone comes from with support for where they are headed. She values the complexity of cultural identity and works with clients to honor their backgrounds while building pathways toward belonging and growth in their present context.
Laura welcomes adults and teens of all backgrounds, approaching each person’s story with curiosity and cultural humility. Whether you’re seeking therapy to process the past, make sense of the present, or prepare for the future, Laura views therapy not only as a path toward symptom relief but also as a space where old narratives can be unpacked and reimagined.
