Kristofer Thomas

Educational Tutor

Kristofer Thomas is a writer, editor, and educator working in New York City. He holds a BA in Theater and German from Barnard College of Columbia University. He currently teaches preschool in Tribeca and works as a tutor for students with a wide variety of academic and socioemotional needs. His prior professional experience includes working as a Writer’s Assistant at NBC Universal, copywriting for a commercial video production house, and teaching Theater at Harlem School of the Arts.

My personal approach as an educator is grounded in clear communication, a genuine love of learning, and empathy. I’m excited to partner with a group like Mind Matters as a passionate believer in the inherently therapeutic nature of structured support frameworks like tutoring and academic coaching. What I have most enjoyed in my work as an educator transcends marked achievements like college acceptances or GPA boosts—the greatest reward lies in watching a student experience personal achievement and an emboldened sense of self.

My general process with new students begins with assessing current capabilities, identifying and outlining tangible goals, and setting a schedule that feels comfortable for all parties. I am also experienced in communicating with parents, other teachers, and clinicians with regard to a student’s progress and ongoing needs.
